For the past two Sundays we have been announcing and promoting the online giving that we recently set up for our parish collections. I believe that it is a more efficient way of giving donations to the parish. It allows parishioners to continue their duty of contributing for the work of the parish community even if they are away on a trip or if they forget their envelopes at home.
However, there are valid concerns that may be causing some parishioners not to sign up for it. Please do not feel forced to sign up for online giving as it is just one way that might make giving contributions easier or more convenient for some parishioners.
The act of putting something (an envelope, check, or cash) in the offertory basket as an offering makes participation in caring for the parish needs more concrete and the sense of ownership and belonging in the community is strengthened by it – this is something beautiful that I believe parishioners should not be deprived of. That is why offertory envelopes will still be given to those who already signed up for online giving. They can give the empty envelopes during offertory collections on Sundays with a note that says “we give online.”
May God continue to bless us all in our parish community and through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, our most pure patroness, may we all be strengthened in our Christian way of life.
