Last week, Archbishop Sample sent a letter to all priests encouraging us to pray the prayer to St. Michael the Archangel after each parish Mass. He also encourages all of the Catholic faithful in the whole Archdiocese to pray it daily. So from this Sunday (September 23, 2018), we will pray the prayer to St. Michael at all Masses before we sing the recessional hymn just after the final blessing and dismissal.
We will also pray it after each daily Mass during the week. This prayer is a powerful weapon against Satan’s snares as we ask for the powerful help of the leader of all the angels and of the army of God, St. Michael the Archangel. Let us not be caught unaware brothers and sisters, we are in a war and in this ongoing battle that we have against Satan and his forces, we the members of the Mystical Body of Christ – the Church – are experiencing a great attack. Let us seek every help that we can get.
There are prayer cards in the pews for everyone’s use during the Mass. Please leave those prayer cards when you go after the Mass so that others can use it as well. Below, you can see a copy of the prayer. If you do not have a copy of the prayer in your homes, you can cut this prayer out and keep the prayer with you for easy access.
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Let us pray that we may be true soldiers for Christ in this fight against the evils of the enemy, and through the intercessions of St. Michael and our Blessed Mother, let us pray for the cleansing and purifying of our Universal Roman Catholic Church. May God bless and have mercy on us all.
