During the time of Lent, we are being reminded of the importance of prayers, fasting, and almsgiving. These are the three principal actions that help us deepen our relationship with God and with one another especially during the season of Lent. I hope that we take time to do those things as we journey towards the glorious celebration of Easter.
When we pray, fast, and give to those in need, we are not only opening ourselves to God, we are also allowing ourselves to be channels of His love and mercy to God’s people and what better time to be that than this time of preparation for the celebration of Easter. Let us be reminded though that praying, fasting, and almsgiving are things that we should be doing all throughout the year but during this season, those actions take on a special meaning because we are being made more aware of our oneness with our Lord’s own forty days in the desert and his ultimate sacrifice on the cross.
In these forty days of Lent, let us do our best to look at the countless blessings that God is giving us and for those times we have turned away from him because of our sins, let us beg for his mercy and forgiveness.
May God continue to bless us all as we continue on our Lenten journey.
