Fr. Maro’s Weekly Message

fr-maro-smallDear Parishioners,

May is the month of Mary and that is the reason why there are so many Marian devotions during the month of May. May Crowning is one of them. It is a tradition in the Catholic Church wherein we crown our Blessed Mother with flowers. The crown of flowers signify her virtues and through her intercession we pray that we may be blessed to have those virtues as well. As a perfect Christian, Mary is our queen and perfect example – our devotions to her are prayers asking for her to intercede for us as we do our best to be like her in living our lives as followers of Jesus Christ.

However, let us always remember that the fruit of our devotion to Mary should be our great relationship with Jesus Christ. That is the role of Mary – she points us to her Son and through her prayers, we grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. If our devotion to Mary does not make our faith in Jesus Christ grow, then we have to rethink our devotion to Mary. Our devotion to Mary is not an end in itself – our devotion to Mary is meant to increase our faith in Jesus Christ.

This month, as we honor our Blessed Mother as queen with a crown of flowers, let us not lose sight of the main goal – Jesus Christ.

In Christ, Fr. Maro
