Fr. Maro’s Weekly Message

Fr. MaroDear Parishioners,

Happy Birthday!!! The Solemnity of Pentecost (Pentecost Sunday) is always considered the birth of the Church and it is truly something to be celebrated. It is one of the three major celebrations that we have in our liturgical calendar (Christmas and Easter are the other two).

In this celebration we are reminded of our mission. In all the four gospels, Jesus sends the disciples (us!) on a mission and I hope that we are always aware that we are called Christians for a purpose, we truly have a mission. There are times when the mission of being witnesses of the Good News to everyone seems daunting and too big for us but let us be reminded that we are not sent on our own, we have the Holy Spirit with us. In fact, the Holy Spirit is the number one Missionary, and we are only his collaborators. So let us allow the Holy Spirit’s work to manifest itself in our lives. Our Lord wants us to show everyone the power and love given by his Spirit, we are supposed to be the instruments used for that purpose, what an honor!

As we celebrate today the birth of our Church – the coming of the Holy Spirit – let us be reminded that the Holy Spirit is with us and with His power let continue the mission that Jesus Christ started. There is no mission too big for us if we have our God helping us. Let us take courage and bravely march on as soldiers for God in our battle against the works of the evil one – Onward Christian Soldiers, onward!

In Christ,
Fr. Maro
