For this letter, I would like to encourage you to make a conscious effort to see how beautiful the Mass is. There are so many things to consider when attending the Mass and so many reasons why the Mass is beautiful. There are times when everything becomes automatic to us and everything becomes part of a routine; let not the celebration of the Mass be among those things. Listen to the proclamation of the Scriptures, say the responses with the whole congregation, recite the prayers consciously and from the heart, sing if you can, and most importantly behold the presence of God.
There are times when for one reason or another, something at Mass can be distracting; please don’t allow those distractions to stop you from fully participating at Mass. I think it is good to be reminded that full participation at Mass is really about being able to pray. The Mass is after all, the supreme prayer of the Church. While it is true that music at Mass can greatly influence our ability to pray, being aware of what is going on during the Mass is more important. I do believe that our Adult Faith Formation Committee is preparing a course that will include a lengthy discussion on the Mass and I would like to invite everyone, as early as now, to consider attending it. It will truly help in making you see the beauty of our liturgy.
I encourage you to consciously make an effort to participate at Mass through praying and appreciate once again how beautiful our Roman Catholic Mass is. For me on my part, I will continue to do my best in leading the community in prayer during our celebration of the Holy Eucharist. May God continue to bless us all as we worship Him as a Catholic community and family.
