As we remember the birthday of our Blessed Mother (September 8), let us be mindful of her powerful intercession for us. We are so blessed to have our Mother as our patroness; let us truly develop a relationship with her that leads us to our Lord. I know how sometimes some people have a hard time going to the Blessed Mother or other saints for intercession – “I feel more comfortable praying directly to God.” – and there is nothing wrong with that, but going to our Blessed Mother to ask for prayers is an option that can lead us to develop a closer relationship with God. Praying for our Blessed Mother’s intercession not only reminds us of our communion with her as children of God, but it can also be an inspiration for us to live like she lived – ever faithful to God and dependent on his grace.
Our Gospel for this Sunday reminds us of discipleship. Our Blessed Mother is first of all the disciple of our Lord; let us be moved to follow her example and live our faith with courage. Let us not be afraid to surrender everything to our Lord so that like our Blessed Mother, we too may be led to the glory of heaven.
Holy Mary mother of Jesus and our mother too, pray for us.
