On June 3, 2018, the Archbishop is implementing some changes in the liturgical celebrations that we have in the Archdiocese and one of those changes will be regarding the celebration of ‘Communion Services’ – no ‘Communion Services’ are to occur without his express permission.
In a letter sent by the Archbishop to all priests in the Archdiocese of Portland, he said, “Beginning on the Solemnity of Corpus Cristi (3 June 2018), Communion Services will not be allowed in our parishes without my express permission: Such permission will only be given for extraordinary circumstances.”
In next week’s bulletin, we will have an insert that came from the Archdiocesan Office of Divine Worship explaining what communion services are. But for now, please be informed that we will not be having communion services anymore (regardless of who leads them) unless given express permission by the Archbishop. The Office of Divine Worship has produced a booklet which can be used by the people who wish to gather in prayer during the weekdays when there is no available priest for daily Mass.
As I always have, I will continue to do my best to be as present as I can be in our parish community so I can celebrate with you the Holy Mass. May the Lord continue to guide us in our Archdiocese. May the Holy Spirit continue to be our leader and guide in our pursuit of holiness especially through the reception of the Most Holy Eucharist in the celebration of the Mass. May God continue to bless us all.
In Christ, Fr. Maro
